Rhymefest runs for Alderman

In the four years after his debut, Blue Collar, socially conscious Chicago hip-hop vet Che Smith, aka Rhymefest, kept relatively quiet before returning with this year's El Che. Now, Time Out Chicago reports that he has made the leap into politics, announcing his candidacy for alderman (a position on the City Council) of the 20th Ward of Chicago.

Smith announced his candidacy Thursday at a car detailing shop in the 20th Ward, which is on the south side of the city. Watch the video of his speech below, which elucidated why he was running and the problems in his area that he'd like to fix. "We don't need to reinvent the wheel. We need to reinstate it."

Information about Smith's campaign can be found over at his website. The election is on February 22.
